How we got here
The 3 rocks
It started with a spending problem. Rocks are cool, and it turns out cool rocks cost money — a lot of it. So the plan was simple: buy 3 rocks, keep 1, sell the other 2, and use that money to pay for the one I kept. Free rock. Genius. Except the 2 sold faster than expected, and then there were 6 rocks, and then a table at a local market, and then... well. Here we are.
Then it got out of hand
One rock show led to another. A storage bin became two. Two became a shelf. The shelf became a room. The room became a "rock locker." At some point it stopped being a hobby and started being an obsession — and then, eventually, a business. Motown Rocks was born out of Metro Detroit with a simple idea: rocks are incredible, and more people should know about them.
What we actually do
We source fossils, minerals, crystals, slabs, and specimens from all over the world — and yes, occasionally from beyond (meteorites count). Every piece is hand-selected because we genuinely care about quality. We're not a big-box operation. We're a small team of people who get unreasonably excited about geology.
Who we're for
Home decorators who want something with a story. Scientists and collectors who want something with provenance. Metaphysical folks who want something with energy. And honestly, anyone who's ever picked up a rock off the ground and thought "huh, that's cool" — you're our people.

We read the Wikipedia articles. We watch the documentaries. We stay up too late learning about the Cambrian explosion. It shows in what we stock.
Globally sourced
Our rocks come from all over the globe — and even beyond. Morocco, Madagascar, Brazil, the asteroid belt. We go where the good stuff is.
No gatekeeping
Rocks are for everyone. Whether you're a PhD geologist or someone who just thinks amethyst is pretty — you're welcome here. No judgment.
